Water Your Grass

Hey Girl,

With social media and reality television so "in ya face" these days, it's easy to compare our lives, status and success to other people. Now more than ever before, we can literally see what someone else has going on whether we want to or not in a matter of seconds. This causes us to constantly see if we measure up with other people's lifestyle whether we realize it or not. With hashtags like "relationship goals," "life goals," etc. it's easy to strive for man's standard of living rather than thanking God for our portion and living according to His plan for our life.

The Bible gives us clear direction on who and how we should be which is ultimately like Christ. So why, then, is it so easy to want to be like someone else? I believe we have this innate craving within to measure up to some sort of unique and prestigious standard. When our eyes are not on Christ, we believe that standard we're seeking is man's concepts and ideas. If you have this problem, do not fear my friend. God knew this would happen, but He noted very clearly in His word that any person who compares their self to another is not wise.  He left clear direction in His word on the standard we should live up to. In scriptures such as I Peter 1:16, Ephesians 6:10, Galatians 5:16, Matthew 22:36 and Matthew 6:33 just to name a few, the Lord provides us with a road map for how we should be. Why be so caught up in what another mother does for her child or how a woman's boyfriend treats her or how much money someone else has. You don't know what they went through or what they had to do to get where they are. Good, bad or indifferent.

There's an old saying that the grass is always greener on the other side, but I'll have you know that this is only because you're not watering yours. Whenever you catch yourself looking at what someone else has or is capable of doing that's "better" than you, you know you've reached a point in which you are comparing yourself to that person. Don't get me wrong, it's wonderful to want to be better because of someone else inspiring you; however, when it becomes a competition in your mind or you allow jealousy to set in, you need to pray! Pray and ask God for wisdom on how to enhance your personal life so that you're not busy looking over the fence. Also, begin to thank Him for your portion. No matter what situation you're in, thank Him for where you are. He placed you right where you are for a specific reason. Sometimes He's trying to teach you a lesson, get your attention or simply using your current disposition as a stepping stone to take you to the next level of your life.

Bye for now, I love you and God loves you so much.

XOXO,

Farrah LaRae Wynn
